Sundara Murthy Nayanar, one of the four saivite saint (Nalvar) is considered as a close friend of Lord Shiva. He lived only for 19 years but visited almost all Siva temples in Tamilnadu. He was the first one who gave the life sketches of 63 Nayanmars.
He visited Kerala to worship the Lord Siva at Thiruvanjikalam and to meet his close friend Cheraman Perumal Nayanar who was also one of the 63 Nayanmars. Along with his friend he bodily ascended to Kailas to be with Lord Siva.
